夹叙夹议，就是在叙事过程中穿插议论的成分，即在叙述人物、事件时，针对所叙述的人物或事件发表自己的看法。这种边叙述、边议论的表达方式，可以适时地表达作者的心声。作者恰当的议论，还有导读作用，可以引导读者领会其意图，从而品味出文章的思想内容。
夹叙夹议的表达方式，仍是以记叙为主，议论只起提示和表达作者观点及态度的'作用，不影响记叙的展开。议论是为记叙服务的，千万不可喧宾夺主。如果能在记叙的过程中适时地加入一些议论，好似锦上添花，将会收到更好的表达效果。
