Dan Sperber和Deirdre Wilson的关联理论是在H。P。Grice的交际理论与会话含意理论的基础上发展起来的，他们合着的《关联性：交际与认知》一书中对其有很精辟的阐述。关联理论作为认知语言学一个理论给西方语用学界带来了极大影响。它将关注的核心投到人类交际与话语理解方面，其影响力已超出了语用学领域，延伸到翻译领域。因为自然语言中的每个话语都可以有多种理解，要正确的理解自然语言，就必须通过语境来寻找信息的关联，然后根据话语和语境的关联进行推理。而翻译中为达到语用等效，其前提正是正确地理解自然语言。因此，关联理论就成为可以指导翻译的语用翻译理论。

——小引
很多时候仰望蓝天，浮云流鸟。
轻轻靠在窗台上，莫扎特的音乐随着机子转动弥漫着整个房间。淡米色的玻璃，透出了些曦光，洒在我身上。
我拥有云。即使我不能乘着它飘舞在蓝天之上。又有时会把画架放在阳台，望望天空，用画笔尽情调戏着那浮云蓝天。很少刻意去勾勒，只是笔随意渲染，慢慢由浓转淡，直至完成时。
依旧细细品味那不着边的梦——我拥有的，那无尽的幻想能力。喜欢银色，也爱那黑色。不知原因。只是见到那纯净的颜色，心里瞬时静了很多。一日无聊，翻翻书竟摸到葬花吟的那面，林黛玉的插图还在，依旧美。林黛玉其实是个很香水的女人，她的孤寂正似那香气，不知不觉笼罩了大片的人。孤寂便是她所拥有的。同时与那存在的还有才华，那情感。而她正是毫无那宝杈所谓的\'会做人，因此黯然神伤，郁郁埋没了华美的一生。然后阿k就问我，你选择做黛玉还是宝杈?我说两种都否定。
想在这里，演绎自己。
人都是天生的演员。这是每人都拥有的特权。
不会像黛玉，更不会像宝杈。
我拥有的便是那不会枯竭的笑容。算算时间，更多人都说我乐观，仅仅因为我的笑容从不离于脸上。
维持笑容其实是件很难的事。但我却拥有这项特殊能力。
我每次都告诉自己，每一件事的后果，预想的都是最坏的答案。而揭露答案那一晓，往往绝对是还存在后路的——于是我每次都会因此去感谢天，感谢地，感谢周围。
我拥有很多，一杯牛奶，那是永远温暖的亲情。一块一分为二的饼干，那是长途漫漫的友谊之路的灯光。我拥有亲情的滋润，友谊的灌浇。
不需要去奢求更多。我不是黛玉与宝杈，我没有黛玉的才华，没有宝杈的城府。
但我所拥有的，是她们永远都已逝去再也无法拥有的。
天若有情，天有情。虽然给这样一个结局固然显示我的大言不惭，双双两两，两两双双，她们的才情我比不上。但我拥有，受之不尽。

关联理论强大的解释力为翻译研究提供了一个理论框架。在此框架下，从认知角度对翻译过程进行描写，把翻译过程看作是原者—译者—读者之间的两个交际过程，在动态语境中找出各种信息之间的最佳关联，对真实交际意图做作出推理，从而能够全面、科学的阐释话语理解，达到翻译这一交际的目的。
