有一次，它吃得太多了，一路啃啊，啃啊，啃到了苹果皮上。粉红色的苹果皮，被它啃成了半透明的。这时，它看见了从外面透过来的几束光亮。
“这是什么?”肉虫子想，“这墙壁外面一定有一些我没见过的东西。”它感到有些害怕，就赶紧又缩回了苹果核里。

因为想得多了，睡得少了，它就觉得更饿了，它吃得越来越多，越来越快，最后，苹果星球被它啃得就剩下一层薄薄的皮了，而它却长成了一条很大很大的肉虫子。
终于，有一天，这层皮“啪”的一声破了，肉虫子从瘪了下去的苹果星球里钻了出来，它看见了一个无边无际的世界，四面八方都有星辰在闪烁，真是太美了!
可是，肉虫子却觉得有点透不过气来，它的身体里似乎有什么东西正在迅速膨涨，涨得它快要裂开了。“我快了吗?”肉虫子颤抖着想。
就在这一瞬间，一条闪闪发光的银丝忽然从它的嘴里喷了出来。这条银丝越来越长，长得缠住了肉虫子，把它和苹果星球裹在了一起，变成了一个圆圆的、闪闪发光的银茧。
苹果星球就这样消失了。又过了很久很久的时间，从这个漂浮在宇宙中的茧子里，钻出了一只七彩斑斓的大蝴蝶，它衔着一颗金色的苹果种籽，向着宇宙的最深处飞去——它是要去寻找一片最宽广的土地，好种下这颗种籽，让它长成一棵开满花朵的大树，那时，宇宙间就又会飘起一阵阵苹果的香气……
