（一）意识落后，态度不积极
部分学生对英语教育的认识不足，没有认识到英语的重要性，英语学习的主动性较低[1]。这种不积极的态度导致英语教学活动很难得到深入全面地开展，而且部分心理较幼稚的学生甚至会出现对英语的轻视或敌视：英语不是我的母语，无须学习。这是艺术生和普通学生都会出现的问题，而在艺术生中这一问题会因为各种因素出现的频率更高。另外，艺术生一般心理较崇尚自由，部分学生养成了较为懒散的学习习惯，没有进行计划性的学习，对学习的任务也是采取敷衍的态度，导致学习没有深度。在课后，很少有学生主动进行英语学习[2]。这些意识的落后最终都体现为对英语的忽视，态度的不积极严重影响英语水平的提高。除了学生，部分教师对英语的重视程度也较低。很多的艺术类教师只注重对学生专业能力的培养，只注重表演、绘画、音乐等艺术涵养高、文化程度深的课程教学。他们忽视了英语作为语言的沟通作用，没有进行较高质量的英语教学，导致学生学习更加懒散。最后，学校的考核制度也不够合理，大多数学校采取期末的方法进行考核，而考试的监督又不够严格。这种考试制度使得学生的学习只是为了应付考试，教学的宽度有所下降。
（二）基础较差，教学难度大
艺术类专业的文化课程分数线较低，很多学生英语基础比较差，大多数都在60分左右，平均水平处于不及格的状态，甚至部分学生的英语成绩在20分左右，英语成绩在100分以上的比较少。一方面，学生的基础差，而教学内容是需要一定基础的，这一矛盾导致教学从最开始就没有进行良好的对接。随着教学的继续，学生之间的差距越来越大，整体水平甚至出现了倒退。另一方面，基础差使学生养成了一种无所谓的态度，抱着破罐子破摔的心理对待英语学习。英语作为一门语言类学科，学生在日常生活中使用得也较少，一旦教学出现了间断，就会出现倒退的现象。而且，艺术生的专业课占比极大，练习较多，学生没有课外时间进行英语学习，导致基础不牢固。
（三）方式单一，教学效果差
由于艺术类专业对英语不够重视，导致教学的方式没有变化，资源分配过少，加剧了教学模式的单一。大多数英语课堂仍然采取教师课上讲授、学生被动接受的教学模式。这种灌输式的教学方法损伤了学生学习的积极性，也不利于对教学的深度进行挖掘。尤其教授对象是艺术生这种思想较为活泼、性格较为开放的群体，这种板的教学模式带来了沉闷的气氛，导致部分学生对英语教学出现了抵触的心理。
（四）难度不合理，实际意义低
目前边远山区的英语教学没有考虑艺术生的基础较差这一现状，导致教材与教学脱轨，很多学生无法理解教学内容。另外，在教学内容的分配上，英语的运用内容较少，这会造成教学的实际意义降低，无法适应高考及社会发展的需求。
