在现实生活中，有许多类似的事情。当你问一个小孩世界上谁最漂亮时，他会说是自己的妈妈;当你问一位母亲她认为谁最聪明时她会说是自己亲爱的儿子。为什么每个人都认为与自己关系最密切的人是最棒的呢?可事实并非如此啊。也许那小孩的母亲是一个非常普通的妇女;也许那母亲的儿子也是一个成绩不太好的学生。对了，是感情在这里起作用。
正如故事申的猫头鹰，我们天天与自己最亲密的人打交道，不知不觉中我们就会把对他们的看法建立在感情的基础上。感情越深，对他的看法就越好。父亲总不会怀疑自己的儿子会偷他的东西，是吗?
然而，这种建立在感情上的认知是非常容易引起错误的。美国某富豪儿子多次偷他父亲的钱，他父亲也知道他的钱多次被偷，可他总怀疑不到自己的孩子身上，最终他的儿子走上了犯罪的道路。这样的例子不胜枚举，所以我们对待事物和认知事物都要从实际出发。故事中的猫头鹰和富豪就是非常典型的教训。

宋代大将岳飞，是万人景仰的好，每每提到他，人们心中首先泛起的伯是个忠宇，还有其母为其刺的"精忠报国"四个字。岳时刻记得为国而六忠，领导岳家军战无不胜攻无不克，打得敌军如丧家之大而逃，金兵闻岳家军习胆失魂，然而，宋代皇帝不识忠善恶丑，听信小人秦侩的恶言，害岳飞，而金去大快，所以宋代天下终沦人金人之手。可悲可恨的不只是秦侩，而是不识忠奸亲小人而远忠臣的宋代皇帝，因为他定善恶以亲疏。
勿以亲疏定善恶，不要认为朋友永远是朋友，朋友永远是善良的，忠诚的也不要认为和你疏远的人永远都是坏人、恶人，事情永远不可能和我们想的一样，忠恶善侯永远要用事实说话，因为事物的本质永远都不是显露在外的，而是隐藏在内的。
勿以亲疏定善恶，它还包括不要认为是亲人，就可以姑息养奸，亲人的手一样可以将亲人引上断头台，更要让亲人分清善恶，惩恶扬善，不时之时更要大义灭亲。
