随着一声开令枪响，比赛开始了。所有的选手都迈开轻快的步伐向前冲，只有乌龟落在了后面——他的腿实在太短了，身上的壳也太重了。就在兔子超越他的那一刻，还向他做了个鬼脸，看来这次兔子会吸取上次教训，奖牌志在必得了。
生活在山中的兔子，对爬山那是轻车熟路，只见他三跳两跳就出现在了山顶。乌龟还在一步一步向前挪动。他得意地向乌龟呼喊着说：“喂——老兄，咱们终点见！”就在这时，兔子脚下一滑，跌下了山坡。兔子被摔得头晕脑胀，动弹不得。乌龟正巧路过，看到兔子摔得不轻，赶忙上前问候，“兔老弟，你还好吗？”兔子看到乌龟，没好气地说：“自从遇见你，就没好事。上次输掉比赛，一直被大家嘲笑；这次又差点要命，哎呀呀，痛我了……”乌龟没有回答，示意让兔子爬到背上来。兔子不太情愿，可是又没有别的办法，只好照做。乌龟驮着兔子吃力地往回走，一句话也不说。就这样，乌龟汗流浃背地把兔子送到了医务室，兔子得到了及时救治。
虽然，他们都没有完成比赛，但是却因此成了好朋友。
