临行的前一夜，他顾不得休息，仍像往日一样在灯下苦读。夜深了，窗外一片漆黑，到处都静悄悄，只有偶尔从那远处传来的更鼓声告诉他现在已近天明，仿佛在催促他说：“你太累了，休息一会儿吧。”孟郊见已过五更，便起身熄灯去休息。
就当他路过母亲的房间时，他惊呆了：油灯下，白发苍苍的母亲正趁着微弱的灯光为他缝制第二天要穿的衣服。母亲的脸上皱纹密布，紧锁的眉头下是一双老泪纵横的眼睛。孟郊知道他一定是在担心自己明天的远行。常言道“儿行千里母担忧啊。”她肯定怕儿子在外吃苦受累，肯定也在担心儿子这一去久久不回来……孟郊站在母亲的门外悄悄地哭了，他知道母亲这一夜都不会睡了，所以他决定就在门外陪陪母亲，因为他害怕母亲看见儿子牵挂他舍不得他而流下的泪水，他不想让母亲难过。就这样，孟郊站在门外悄悄地细细地看着母亲，看他花白的`头发，苍老憔悴的面庞，还有母亲那握着针线的粗糙的双手；也默默地感受着母亲那伟大而又平凡的爱子之心。
天亮了，孟郊背起行囊告别母亲走出家门。母亲把他送了一程又一程。孟郊在山口和母亲告别的那一刻，他忽然回头望望风中伫立的母亲，他觉得自己这么多年来就像是一颗小草，母亲就好比是那温暖的太阳辛勤地抚育自己成长。他默默地问自己：“母亲那份伟大的爱，你将能不能回报，又拿什么回报啊？”
在母亲泪眼的注视中，离家的游子孟郊带着用功成名就来回报母亲的愿望远行了。

我不知道我所幻想的这个故事曾经是不是发生过，但我却一点也不怀疑天下那深深的母爱，我也理解天下儿女们那“报春晖”的切切心情因为我仿佛就是那游子孟郊！
