秦琼把犯人送到潞州后，因欠下房钱，又患重病，被迫卖出自己的金刚锏时，遇到了绿林好汉单信雄。他一直敬重秦琼的为人和武艺，便厚赠银两。秦琼在回家的途中因被错认为是响马，打斗中，失手打捕快获罪，被当地官府发配燕山，之后他又因为罗成父亲的关系，去山东节度使唐璧处当旗牌官。
秦琼到达山东不久，杨广谋害了隋文帝篡位，当他强迫大臣伍建章伪造遗诏布告天下大时，建章不从被，引起建章的儿子南阳太守伍之召起兵反隋。杨广命韩德虎攻破南阳后大赦大下登基。被判重刑的程咬金遇救出狱后，单雄信见他是位英雄，便拉他一起做打劫的无本生意，却得靠山王杨林的几十万两饷银，便当众烧毁捕批牌票。不料单雄信和程咬金又在黄土岗被捕，于是徐茂公等好汉人返山东，救出二人，聚义瓦岗寨，拥戴程咬金为“混世魔王”粉碎了隋军的多次征讨。
瓦岗军的程咬金觉得当皇帝没趣，把王位给了谋士李密。李密便自立为西魏王，统兵扫隋，得到天下响应。游幸到扬州的隋炀帝终于被自己最信任的宇文化及。李密趁机拿下扬州。但他不思进取，开始腐化堕落不说，还猜忌部下。而胸怀大志、深谋远虑的`李世民却思贤如渴，广纳人才。他十分赞赏已成为他妻子的长孙姑娘的观点：统一天下的大战，也是争夺人才的大战。于是那些叛离李密的谋士大将们纷纷投到李世民的门下，众叛亲离的李密终于被中国籍的王世充击败。
在李世民的统帅下，徐茂公、秦琼等人等率兵扫平了十八路反王。演绎了场颇为神奇的故事。
然而才高功大的李世民一直被太子李建成和齐王李元吉所嫉恨，他们谋害李世民的阴谋暴露后，忍无可忍的李世民翦除了李建成和李元吉。事后李世民也被群臣拥戴登上帝位，是为唐太宗。
总之，我相信精彩，不是说出来的，而是出来的！
