在茂密的大森林里，生活着梅花鹿一家——鹿爸爸、鹿妈妈、鹿宝宝。他们早晨起床后，外面觅食，太阳落山后回到家里，尽享天伦之乐。可是，有一天，时间很晚了，鹿宝宝还没有回家。鹿爸爸、鹿妈妈不见孩子的踪影，十分焦急。
鹿宝宝到底去哪了？原来，鹿爸爸、鹿妈妈还有鹿宝宝在分头去觅食的时候，鹿宝宝被一个猎人盯上了，而他一点儿感觉也没有。鹿宝宝边找食，边不知不觉地就走到了森林深处。猎人看时机成熟，只听“梭”的一声，箭正好射在小鹿的腿上，顿时，鲜直流！“好疼啊！”小鹿撕心裂肺地叫着。可猎人并不理它，而在一旁哼起了小曲。
天渐渐暗了，小鹿好着急啊！它对猎人说：“地球不光生活着人类，也生活着我们这些小动物。现在，已经有那么多种动物快要灭绝了，就连我们已经所剩无几了！吃果子狸得了非典，吃候鸟得了禽流感……你们再这么伤害我们，这对你们自己有好处吗？”猎人被问得哑口无言，惭愧地说：“从今以后我再也不捕动物了，我还要劝周围的人也爱护动物！”接着，他帮小鹿包扎好伤口，把它放了。
鹿宝宝赶紧回家，又回到了爸爸妈妈的身边。从此，它们又过上了幸福快乐的生活。而那个猎人呢？果真不再打猎，还成了保护动物协会的会员呢！
