李白乘舟将欲行，忽闻岸上踏歌声。
桃花潭花深千尺，不及汪伦送我情。
我收到一位素不相识的人写给我的信，写信的是汪伦，信中所说的'十里桃花和万家酒店不禁让我为之心动，我毫不犹豫立即前往。
我乘舟来到泾县，这时汪伦正在岸上盼我到来。我下了船，汪伦热情地接待我，他跟我介绍了泾县的风土人情，却迟迟未提信中所说令我向往的十里桃花，万家酒店，我纳闷之余，忍不住开口问道：“不知先生信中所说的十里桃花，万家酒店在何处？”汪伦道：“万里桃花所指潭水之名称，并无桃花；万家酒店实指店主人姓万，并无万家酒店。”听到这幽默风趣的答话，我不禁大笑，笑中想到汪伦如此诚挚地邀我作客，不免有些感动。
我在泾县游玩多日，天天与汪伦吟诗作对，欣赏美景，痛饮好酒，好不个自由快活。数日后，我要离开泾县，回到家中，到了船口，却迟迟不见汪伦的到来，我想，他应该是不忍于别吧，心中不勉有几分失落和伤感。船要行驶了，这时，忽然听见一阵阵热情爽朗的歌声传来了，人不到，歌已先到，望着随后赶来送别的汪伦，想到以后有可能极难见到这位情投意后的好朋友了，心情便又沉重起来，写下了此诗。
