作为佛弟子，我们信奉并恪守佛陀的教言：“一切众生皆平等，皆有佛性，皆为过去父母、未来诸佛。”故佛弟子普遍奉行不生，不伤及一切众生、动物生命。也有很多佛弟子自觉自愿长期严格素食，拒食一切动物，肉、蛋、奶，不用动物皮、毛，一切身份，无疑这是非常难得的。反思心灵深处，很多人虽然也严格食素，但仍认为(虽然是不经意地我的生命、人比动物高贵，这也仅仅因为自己是人，以人为中心放大自我的一种偏见。这让我们傲慢地自居高地，俯视同为生命的动物，而没有真正从内心深处建立平等，否则为什么家家厨房餐桌每日屠百千万亿众生肉，而我们也如他人一样，选择忽视沉默呢?
当读完《世界和平饮食》，出门正看到一只小黑狗自顾自玩耍，我竟如发现新大陆一般眼前一亮，生命的美感通过它传递给我。再看一切昆虫、微生物，也有了全新的觉受，会欣赏感动，生命是平等的，佛性是平等的。
随着我们对生命平等的感悟，我们的心量会越见扩大，内心的喜悦会加深，也会更平静。自我以个人为中心不断向外放大而有了不同的表现，当它只是个人层面的自我，很容易察觉，过于自我的人在大众中不受欢迎;但随着自我的放大，便越来越难觉察。先是放大到家庭，共同的家庭成员必然维护这个家庭自我，再放大到团体、种族、国家、性别、宗教、人类，也就成了超级自我。所有人都迷在其中，而又极力维护的。这种人类集体的自我中心主义，力量之强大、形式的迷惑几乎无人可挡，无人可识，所以才有所有人类合谋集体屠同为生命的动物以满人类口腹之欲的行为，却对其不合理视而不见并编造种种理由。有人说，人类最大的罪过便是人类中心主义。(我越来越坚信，人类最严重的罪过之一就是人类中心论。——马修·福克斯一点不假，佛说我执无明是造罪的根源，唯有破除人我执、法我执，达致人无我、法无我，才是解脱。

书中刻画了许多个性鲜明的人物，如：性格内向、意志坚定的安德烈，有较强的社会活动能力;心直口快、易动感情的彼埃尔，缺少实际活动的能力，侧重于道德理想的追求;女主人公娜塔莎则是个情感丰富，生机勃勃，热爱大自然，接近人民，具有民族精神的女人。他们在保卫祖国的战争中得到了锻炼和成长。而以库拉金为代表的宫廷贵族的贪婪、虚伪和堕落的个性，也被赤裸裸地刻画出来，并进行了无情的鞭笞。
其中，有两个人物特别耐人寻味，他们的性格变化得非常快。彼埃尔——别祖霍夫伯爵的私生子，在一夜之间变成了百万富翁和社交界的宠儿。获得遗产后的彼埃尔一开始贪图享受，后来献身于慈善事业，最后又想当兵打仗。娜塔莎——罗斯托夫公爵的女儿，她起初喜欢保尔.康斯基的儿子---英勇善战的安德烈，后来又爱上了阿那托里，最后又跟彼埃尔结婚。
《战争与和平》里面有很多精彩的片段，值得我们咀嚼回味，如罗斯托夫一家因战乱迁出莫斯科时娜塔莎与皮埃尔告别的场景。娜塔莎从车窗里探出头来，看到穿着邋遢匆匆走过的皮埃尔，就向他打招呼。他们简单聊了几句，皮埃尔因为痴恋娜塔莎又考虑到自身的处境而显得漫不经心，最后他向娜塔莎挥手道别：“明天，不!再见，再见了。”随即停下脚步落在了马车后面。娜塔莎则好一阵子还把头伸出窗外，对渐渐远去的皮埃尔露出亲切、快乐的微笑。
《战争与和平》让我第一次感悟到：生命是多么宝贵!和平是多么重要!生活在和平年代的我们是多么得幸福!
