??想和想象的区别“联想”指由于某人或某事物而想起其他相关的人或事物. “想象”指想出不在眼前的具体形象或情景。
文章中的联想和想象都是由事物引发的，都是作者思考活动的结果，所不同的是：
联想是由一事物想到另一事物，内容比较单薄，一般不出现具体的形象化的情景描写，有的仅仅是一个简单的想法。例如《菩萨蛮·大柏地》中的“赤橙黄绿青蓝紫”，这是眼前看到的实景(雨后的彩虹：“谁持彩练当空舞”，这是作者(毛泽东由此而产生的联想。
另外，比喻和拟人修辞手法也都是作者的联想。如：“远看长城，像一条长龙”，喻体“长龙”是由本体“长城”引发的联想;“骄傲的孔雀”，把孔雀当作人来写，这是把联想跟实在的事物写在了一起。还有借喻，也是把联想和实在的事物写在一起的，如《沙漠里的“船”》(课文标题。
想象虽然也是由具体事物引起的，但设想(假想出来的内容比较丰富，一般都有具体的形象化的情景描写，而这些形象化的情景是眼前看不到却又合情合理的。例如《卖火柴的小女孩》中写小女孩在又冷又黑的大年夜到街上卖火柴，实在受不住饥饿和寒冷了，就坐在墙角下，点燃了一根又一根火柴，终于冻在街头。这是具体事实。可是小女孩临前擦火柴时想些什么呢?作者展开了丰富的想象：点燃第一根火柴，觉得自己好像坐在一个大火炉前面……;第二根，仿佛看见了正冒着香气的烤鹅……;第三根，觉得自己坐在一棵圣诞树下……;第四根，仿佛看见了奶奶……;最后点燃了一大把火柴，仿佛奶奶把她抱在怀里带走了……。这些想象都是小女孩当时的心理活动，合情合理，读者读后一定格外同情这个小女孩。不仅这样，作者(安徒生还借助想象，提出了穷苦孩子的希望。在大年夜，这些穷苦孩子应当不受冻挨饿，应当跟人们一样欢度圣诞节，应当得到应有的光明和温暖。
“没有寒冷、没有饥饿，没有痛苦的地方”那样的理想是会实现的，但在当时的丹麦，这样的理想还只是穷孩子们的.奢望。作者写出这一理想社会的想象，是要鼓舞人们去创造它，去实现它。
