那个人说：“你画什么呢？”“这本来就是马马虎虎的，这么好的画，送给你了吧！”但是那个人说什么也不要，画家就只好把那幅“马虎图”挂在了自己家的大厅里。这画家的大儿子看到了这幅“马虎图”，但是他不知道那是什么动物。他问画家：爸爸，这幅画里画的是什么呀？画家生气地说：“你怎么这么笨呀，这明明是一只老虎呀！老虎是一种可怕的猛兽，会吃人的，你要是碰到了这种动物，就马上躲起来，要不然就千方百计地把它弄。”
大儿子深信万分就去了野外。他看到了一匹马，他以为这是老虎，就取出弓箭射了马。他还说：“哈哈，这样，爸爸就会说我是打虎英雄了！”突然，有人拉住了他，把他拉到画家那里让画家赔了钱。画家画的这幅“马虎图”让自己赔了钱。他正在气头上的时候，二儿子看到了这幅画，就问：“爸爸，这幅画上的是什么呀？”画家说：“你怎么把你哥还笨呀，和你哥说是只老虎，他却射了马，这就是一匹马。”
二儿子半心半疑地去了山上。他看到一只老虎，以为是马。他还想：“哇，这就是一匹马，听说它能日行千里呢！”他就马上走向“马”去，还没骑上“马”就被老虎给吃了。画家知道了以后，悲痛欲绝，天天以泪洗脸。画家生气地对那幅画说：“你害我赔了钱，还赔了儿子。”他就烧了那幅画。
之后，画家写了这么一首诗：马虎图，马虎图，长子依图射马，次子依图喂了虎，草堂焚毁马虎图，奉劝诸君别学吾。这就是“马虎”一词的来历，它告诉我们做事千万不能马虎，否则要吃大亏的。

Nowadays, advertisements can be found everywhere in big cities. They shout at us from the television screen and radio loudspeakers, wave to us from every page of the newspaper, signal to us from the roadside billboards all day and flash messages to us in colored lights all night.
Faced with a flood of advertisement, some people wonder whether it is necessary to have such huge sums spent on advertising. They often cite in illustration of it the attractive, but false and deceptive advertisements to which many consumers fall victim. Why don't we stop advertising and use the money to reduce the price of goods? It sounds like a good idea, but they fail to notice the contribution advertising makes to our society. Because the production of a better product to compete for customers' money is the goal of advertisers, customers are thus given a chance to compare their products and get the best and cheapest one. Besides, as the advertisement can provide people with a lot of immediate and detailed information as to the availability of a certain product, or a service or a job, it makes life much more convenient.
