一天，森林里的两只小松鼠掉进了小河里。它们直喊救命。
小猴子第一个赶到，安慰它们别害怕，小兔子也赶来帮小猴想办法，小花猫赶来帮助他俩用安慰的方法让两只小松鼠别着急，小胖猪也赶来了，它们四个一起想办法，也没有想出最好的办法，眼看小松就鼠要不行了，它们却只能干着急。
这时，大象闻讯赶到了，看到了这些，说：“现在我们只有齐心协力才能救小松鼠了!”大象又说：“我有一个好办法，那就是拿一根竹竿，把它放进水里，好让小松鼠抓着竹竿上来!”听完了以后，小猴子、小兔子、小花猫和小胖猪都直叫好。
于是，它们找来竹竿，把它放进水里，然后让小松鼠自己抓住竹竿，它们五个一起拉，终于把小松救了上来。
小松鼠得救了，它俩一起谢谢它们五个。大象最开心，因为它用自己的智慧救了两只小松鼠。在阳光下，大象仿佛更加可爱了。从此，小猴子、小兔子、小花猫、小胖猪和小松鼠，以及森林里所有的小动物见到大象以后，都叫它“可爱的大象。”
