从前，在一个小村庄里住着一把万能刀，不管是谁有需要，它都能给予最强有力的帮助。因此，它曾获得村里的“最受欢迎奖”
一天，万能刀在路上散步。突然，万能刀听到远处有人叫它。它四处张望，也不见有人，于是它随着声音走过去，终于找到呼唤它的冬菇了。它温柔地说：“小猫，你找我有什么事。”小猫回答说：“我现在住的房子太旧了，暴风雨来了肯定支撑不住，我想建一间新房子。木我都买好了，但是这些木头长短不一，增加了我建房子的难度。请你帮我把这些木锯成适当的长度可以吗？”万能刀答应了，一接到任务后就马上帮小猫把木头锯成适当的长度。然后又把剩下的木拿回店里回收再利用。
