Since then, this powerful bogie turns itself into a cat in daily life to stay with Xiamu to protect him with the condition that Xiamu should give the contract to it after he die. But before that Xiamu decides to try his best to give the name in the contracts to the bogies and let them get free. Thus, a loving, touching, scary story is opened up.
《夏目友人帐》主要讲述了男主人公夏目贵志拥有可以看到妖怪的特殊能力。因为父母双亡他的性格较为孤僻，并且由于他具有特殊的能力，他常辗转在于亲戚之间并被同龄人欺负。虽然他经历了许多不幸，但他依旧有好善良没有埋怨任何人。最终他被有好善良的藤原夫妇收养并进入高中。有一天，他被妖怪追赶躲进神社，不小心打破了一只强大妖怪斑的封印。并牵涉到了他祖母夏目玲子的遗物—一本同妖怪签订的`契约书。之后，这只强大的妖怪平时便变成猫的样子待在夏目身边保护他，但是他的条件是夏目后要把这本契约书给它。但在此之前夏目决定尽其所能把契约书上的名字还给妖怪们让它们得到自由。由此，一个个温馨、感人、惊险的故事就此展开。

那时，我年仅五岁，在双休日时，闲来无事，便向给老爸扎个小辫。于是，我来到了正在熟睡的爸爸后面。
爸爸的头发的确该剪了，他的头发，厚厚的，软软的，十分好扎，这可就不能怪我了！哼哼，谁让他不去剪发呢！我刚把爸爸的头发分开，忽然，爸爸打起了呼噜，吓得我把手一松，头发又乱了，唉，只好重扎了。爸爸睡觉真不老实，害的我弄了半天，才扎好了两个“冲天揪”。
哈！哈哈！哈哈哈！真是笑了，我实在忍不住了，捂住嘴，跑到了妈妈面前，边笑边告诉她我做了什么坏事。
当我笑够了，才发现爸爸不见了。刚开始我还有一丁丁的紧张和慌乱，可后来当我想到路上的行人会怎么看他时，我又忍不住爆笑起来。过了一会儿，爸爸回来了，只见他一脸的茫然，一脸的不解。
原来爸爸想去小卖部每一盒烟，一出门，所有人都看着他，这下我和妈妈彻底肚子疼了，过了好一会，我们才停止了爆笑，看着正莫名其妙的老爸，我们告诉他发生了什么。爸爸听后又气又笑的说我，妈妈和我又笑了起来，一家人笑成了一片，留下了幸福的一瞬间。

春姑娘的飘带甩进花园。嘿，它在和我捉迷藏。花一开，被我找到了。呀，现在这个花园可真漂亮，香味扑鼻，百花齐放，这全是春姑娘的功劳。这些花儿有的红似火，有的粉如霞，有的白若雪……它们争姿夺艳，美不胜收。看，迎春花吹着金灿灿的小喇叭说：“我最美，我最漂亮……”一团一团的苹果花雪白雪白的，好似一朵朵绽开的棉桃。那梨花绽放着洁白无暇的花朵，呵呵地对我笑呢！不过，我还是最喜欢粉红的樱花，它娇小可爱，好象个羞答答的小妹妹，真让人喜爱。
一时间，花园里飞来了只只蝴蝶，它们在空中翩翩起舞，我也陶醉在这美丽的景色中，不由得也舞蹈起来……
