summer can be very hot in southern taiwan where the temperature usually goes up to 32"c or more. because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. also because of this i stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky.
actually i like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. in the summer vacation that has just ended i went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. this summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. as a second-year senior student i had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. in other words, i must find time to study, too.
so i divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.

那是一个寒气逼人的早晨。地上结着薄薄的冰，人们每走一步，都要十分小心。这时，一位白发苍苍的老奶奶推着自行车进入了我的视线。一开始，我并没有注意她，只是优哉游哉的走着。可突然，我的背后突然响起了“咚！啪！”的一声。这一声，打破了小街的宁静，也打破了人们平静的\'心。许多人都回头观望，我也不例外。原来是那位老奶奶结结实实的摔在地上，身上穿着的棉布衣沾满了污泥，朴实的灰裤子也被“渲染”了一大片。她双目紧闭，双唇颤抖，面目紧绷，白花花的头发也显得更加凌乱，车筐里的菜滚了一地。就在这时，更令人意想不到的事情发生了！老奶奶跌倒以后，竟然只有围观者，没有人肯主动扶起她，更有人甚至连瞟都不瞟一眼，直接扬长而去。我的心里正纳闷儿时，一则新闻从我脑中闪过：也是一位老奶奶跌倒在了地上，一位好心人扶起了她，可这位老奶奶却破口大骂，把好心人的祖宗八代都问候了一遍，还说是他撞倒了自己，更可气的是她还让这位好心人赔偿。最后，这个颠倒是非的老奶奶拿到了赔款。哦！怪不得他们都不去扶刚刚倒下的那位老奶奶，都怕惹祸上身啊。我的心也微微颤抖起来，到底是去扶呢还是不去扶呢？心中的两个小人吵了起来。“你赶快去扶呀！”一号小人显得有些着急了。二号小人不急不慌地反驳道：“扶？哼哼哼！搞不好她也是那种狠毒的老人。”“哼！又不是世上所有人都是狠毒的！”一号小人叫道。可二号小人一直争锋相对，毫不退缩：“不能扶！千万不能扶呀！要是她反咬一口，那你就等着哭吧！”“不就是赔赔赔……钱吗。能赔多多多……少啊。”一号小人有些心动了，结巴起来。二号小人乘胜追击：“哼哼哼！赔了，你的家人就不会怪你了吗？！”最后，我还是在二号小人的唇枪舌剑之下屈服了。多一事不如少一事吧！可就在我想装作没看见走时，一位大学生摸样的青年走了过来。在众目睽睽之下把老奶奶扶了起来，并拨打了120。老奶奶痛苦地睁开了眼，吃力地说了声“谢谢。”那位大学生一直陪伴着她坐在路牙上，直到救护车来，他才默默地走了。
望着那位大学生渐渐远去的背影，我羞愧万分，老师经常教育我们要尊老爱幼、助人为乐。而此时此刻，我又做了什么呢……

At college, I missed my parents a lot. As the term was drawing to an end, I eagerly looked forward to going home. And I planned to do a thousand and one things during the vacation. Above all, I wanted to help my mother with housework. I also wished to read many hooks which my teachers had recommended. However, at home, my mother would never let me do anything. She completely deprived me of sharing her work. As soon as I opened a book to read,she would sit down beside me and ask me about all kinds of things at the college. To please her,I told her one thing after another,and soon I forgot all about books. Even when I was actually reading,she would, now and then,insist that I should eat an egg or drink a cup of tea. When I left home at the end of the vacation, not a thing in my plan had been carried out. But I felt very happy. I believed much more deeply than before in the old saying: Home, sweet home. There’s no place like home!
