我的家乡在汉江岸边，梨花湖畔。汉江是长江的第一大支流，是南水北调中线工程取水的源头。它不仅养育了汉江两岸的人民，也为解决我国北方缺水的问题发挥着重要作用。汉江从老河口市西边流过，建在老河口市境内的王甫洲水电站截流后形成了宽阔的水域和丰富的湿地景观，这里植被丰富，鹜鸟成群，这就是老河口市著名的梨花湖风景区。梨花湖中碧波粼粼，水产丰富；汉江岸边梨飘香，妩媚秀丽。因此，它是一个观光旅游、休闲娱乐的好去处。
然而，如今的梨花湖风景，也不像从前那么美丽了。南水北调中线工程完成后，丹江口水库蓄水量加大，减少向下游排水，导致离它不到二十公里远的梨花湖水位下降。近几年，老河口市城市建议迅猛发展，外资企业扎根老河口，城镇人口迅猛增加，这样建设建筑的垃圾多了，被倒入了汉江；工业的废水多了，被排入了汉江；生活的污水多了，被排进了汉江，……我们的母亲河——汉江就渐渐被污染了，水不在像过去那么清澈了，鱼儿也不像过去那么成群了，江上的气味也不像过去那么清新了。
我们生存的环境已渐渐被破坏，如果再这样继续下去，我们就可能没有清洁的水可以饮用，我们就可能没有鲜活的鱼可以享用。环境已给我们敲响了警钟，我们该清醒了。因此，我呼吁保护梨花湖，爱我母亲河，要从我做起。
首先，我要向同学们、向家人、向身边的人广泛宣传保护环境的重要性，增强他们的环保意识，增强他们的绿色生活意识，增强他们的'绿色出行意识，自觉遵守环保法规和法律，养成文明做人做事的良好习惯。其次，保护环境从小事做起：少用塑料袋，不乱扔杂物。废物按指定地点存放，不乱倒垃圾。少用或不用清洁剂之类的化学制品，减少对水质的污染。节约用水，一水多用。用水时，龙头关小一点，用完后，随手关闭。比如，将洗菜、淘米的水可以用来冲厕所、拖地，可以用来浇花、浇菜地……其三，要有环境监督意识：对乱扔、乱倒垃圾的行为要制止；对未经处理随意排放的工业废水、生活污水的现象要举报，或者请宣传媒体曝光，或者向政府有关职能部门反映，及时制止一些破坏环境的行为。

就拿印度洋毛里求斯群岛上生活的渡渡鸟来说，由于它身上的肉鲜美无比，所以遭到当时人类的大量捕食，在十七世纪就已告灭绝。但是如果当时人们有动物保护意识的话，就不会造成渡渡鸟的灭绝。再说生活在我国青藏高原的藏羚羊吧，因为它其外层皮毛下面的被称作沙图什的绒毛异常精细，可以用来织成华丽的披肩，而惨遭偷猎者大肆捕。因为织出一条女式沙图什披肩便需要300至400克生绒，这意味着要牺牲3只藏羚羊的生命。所以在上世纪90年代初期，藏羚羊的数目只有65000只到72500只之间，要知道这只有100年前藏羚羊总数的十分之一。所幸的是人们意识到了保护这种濒临灭绝的`动物。现在北京已有多名志愿者来到可可西里担当起义务看护藏羚羊的活动。同时国际爱护动物基金会从1999年起每年为我国藏羚羊保护捐赠8万至10万美金用以在可可西里、羌塘和阿尔金山三大自然保护区开展反盗猎行动和针对藏羚羊保护的各种宣传活动。我们人类正慢慢将藏羚羊这种可爱的动物从灭绝的边缘拉回来。
