孙悟空凭借自己一身的好武艺，租了一个民房，开了一家武术馆。由于他教的徒弟个个武功高强，每天前来拜师的人络绎不绝，不到两月，悟空武术馆就遍地开花，各地都有分会馆。
沙僧则从观音处求来一套净水方法，开了一个净水厂，专门净化水源，可以把海水净化成饮用水。这个生意也让沙僧很快成了大富翁。
唐僧是个读书之人，学问很大。先是出国讲学，然后受玉帝之托，在各国开办“汉语学院”。所以，唐僧不光有钱还很有名，真是名利双收啊！

那孙悟空告别了唐僧后，便驾着筋斗云一路飞回了花果山。可是一路上，他却发现山前山后到处是工厂，每个工厂的烟囱也正冒着黑烟，人们一个个戴着口罩匆匆地走着。孙悟空也没太在意。回到了花果山，顿时令他大吃一惊。原来枝繁叶茂的花果山现早已不复存在了。远处，那瀑布上只有寥寥无几的一两滴水在往下滴，土地变得异常干涸，原来活泼可爱的小猴子也一个个不见了踪影。这时，从一棵早已失去生机的枯树后面传来了一个虚弱的声音:‘‘大……大王，您总算回来了。”孙悟空循声过去，只见一只老猴奄奄一息地躺在树下。孙悟空立即扶起了老猴，掏出一个大饼喂给老猴吃。老猴见了，狼吞虎咽地吃了起来，渐渐地也精神了许多。然后他便哭着告诉了孙悟空花果山这些年的遭遇。
原来孙悟空走的这些年里，各个地方都兴建起了一些化工厂，毒气的大量排放造成了连年的酸雨，花草树木随之失去了往日的生机。不久，瀑布的水也变得恶心发臭，最后渐渐被毒日头照得蒸发了。猴群们都忍受不了这种恶劣的环境，病的病，的，还有一些幸存的.猴子则背井离乡，寻找新的家园。只有这只老猴子坚持到了现在，为的就是再见到孙悟空一面，亲自告诉他这一切。
