记得有一次，我感冒了，什么也不想吃。这可急坏了爸爸妈妈，他们给我买来了许很多多好吃的东西，我却吃不下。恰好，奶奶从老家带回一些咸菜。妈妈问我：“想吃吗？”我说，“试试吧！”我夹了一小撮，就着一些白米饭。刚进口，感觉脆脆的，紧接着就有种咸咸的、酸酸的、辣辣的味道。这种滋味实在是太美了！不知不觉间，一碗米饭不见了，盘子里的咸菜也都吃光了。我胃口大开，不到两天，我的病全好了。就这样，我爱上了我们建南的咸菜。
从那以后，不论走到哪里，我都忘不了建南咸菜。渐渐地，我对咸菜的做法也产生了浓厚的兴趣，也有了想自己亲手做咸菜的。于是，我便跑去问奶奶，奶奶告诉我：“首先要在大晴天砍下整棵青菜，上杆晾干后，装进大盆用温水泡洗，用竹刷刷净叶缝土泥垢。晾干后，把菜剖开分为若干等份，将花椒、辣椒、食盐、姜末等佐料包进半剖开的菜茎中，放入土陶坛中密封，三月后就能够吃了。”我又问奶奶，“那吃法呢？”奶奶说，“吃法很多啊，可以做咸菜汤，咸菜面条，咸菜炒腊肉——吃起来美味可口。”我又问：“为什么都是咸菜，一样的做法，一样的吃法，不同时候却有不同的味道呢？”奶奶不厌其烦地说：“乖孙子，你不知道吧！咸菜不与其他菜相同，其他菜讲究新鲜。咸菜就是放上一至三年的时间也好吃。三到五月的新鲜咸菜看起来黄金亮色，味道鲜美。一至三年的咸菜看起来不好看，但是绝不会腐烂变质，而且吃起来美味绝伦！做酸菜鱼、洋芋咸菜汤就离不开这陈咸菜。等你们放星期的时候，我们一起来做吧！保证你吃了还想吃！”奶奶的一席话，让我直咂口水。
朋友，如果你来建南，我一定让你品尝咸菜，我会亲自下厨，给你做一顿咸菜大餐：煮一钵洋芋咸菜汤，炒一盘咸菜腊肉丁，再加上一盘咸菜笋丝，最后再端上一锅热气腾腾的咸菜鱼。让你一顿吃个够，让你吃了还想吃。

而湖北最有名气的美食，便是云梦鱼面。云梦鱼面生产于古泽云梦，始产于清道光年间，历史悠久。云梦鱼面选用“白鹤分流”之鱼，桂花潭中之水，新麦上等面粉及芝麻香油等为主要原料，白如银、细如丝，故又称“银丝鱼面”。云梦鱼面营养丰富，风味独到，鲜美可口。1915年，云梦鱼面在巴拿马万国博览会参加特产比赛获优质银牌奖，畅销全国及国际市场。、

臭豆腐其名俗气，但是爱吃者多而又多。臭豆腐是用黄豆进行发酵做成的。它穿着一身牛奶白的外衣，带着一股特殊气味，呈长方形或正方形。炸熟后换了一身金黄色晚礼服。卖臭豆腐的老爷爷总是先拿出做好的白嫩臭豆腐，放进油锅里炸。顿时，锅里热闹起来，随着“噼噼啪啪”的交响曲，把臭豆腐翻个身再炸。老爷爷会撒上点儿调味品：鸡精、胡椒粉、自制的辣椒粉。接着撮一点儿切细的葱花均匀地放在臭豆腐上。这样一份美味的臭豆腐就做好了。每次，老爷爷的摊前总是排着老长的队伍。
“臭豆腐”、“臭豆腐”，两元、三元、五元都行。一听到这熟悉的吆喝声，便会忍不住买上几元钱。瞧，这些臭豆腐，长长的、方方的、扁扁的，加上排放整齐的配料，令人看了垂涎三尺。把这些金黄的臭豆腐往鼻子上一靠，哇！一股香臭相间的味道扑鼻而来，直钻我的胃中，望着这些可爱的臭豆腐，我真有点舍不得吃呢……开一个小天窗，鲜而美味的汁顺着舌头流入口中，呈现在眼前的就是中间似海绵般柔软的臭豆腐脑。外酥内嫩，这正是臭豆腐最纯正的味道了！这臭豆腐还十分有嚼劲呢！送一块放入嘴中，瞬时间，鸡精的鲜、胡椒、红辣椒粉的辛香辣味和葱花儿的香伴着鲜嫩多汁，外酥内嫩的臭豆腐味一起涌进口中，令人口味无穷。
