It is a useful supplementary tool to be used in goal achievement, because when you write the letter to your future self, it helps crystallize exactly how you anticipate yourself to become at that specific moment down the road.

The letter gives you a macro-view of your initial vision and lets you recognize how your current vision differs from the past.

可惜，天公不作美，在六点钟的时候下起了雨。我坐在车子上，不停地祈求雨能停。但是，雨不但没有停，反而越下越大了。走下车时，我和爸爸妈妈不得不各自拿一把雨伞。我暗暗地想：哎，这下子可糟糕了，晚会上第一个节目就是表演红星歌啊，难道我们要冒雨表演吗？
按照座位表排序，我是坐在第二个的，可是坐在第一位的同学没有来，我就坐在了第一个。老师说：“表演的时候，请家长在后面为自己的孩子撑伞。”
开始表演了，我从容不迫地坐下，眼睛盯着梅福兴老师指挥。“铛”地一声，我们听到了这声音，马上开始弹。顿时，响亮的声音传遍了整个夜空，美妙的音符在夜空中跳跃着，组成了一个奇妙的乐章，扣动了每一个人的心弦。
雨中表演，雨滴调皮地凑到了伞下，好奇地对我看了看，“滴答”一声，坐在了我的裤腿上，听着我们弹琴呢！不知道是哪个调皮的.雨滴，拉走了几个音符，使这乐章出现了矛盾，声音也开始变得杂乱无章。不过，我们才不在意呢，大家盯着梅福兴老师，不一会儿，声音又回来了，这首乐章又继续演奏了下去。“425--671----”这是演奏挺顺利的，不过，大家的裤子上都站满了雨滴。看来，这些雨滴还蛮爱凑热闹的。
表演完了以后，这些雨滴又悄悄地疏散了。这次表演是成功的，也是短暂的，不过，我回永远记住这次演出的，因为，这也是我的一次小小的成功。

陆游得病已有半年了。他有六个九子，其中俩个为了抵御外敌入侵上了前线，其余的都在父亲身边侍奉。当时，朝廷政治腐败，奸臣掌权，陆游常为祖国命运担忧。这次他受了风寒，病情一天天加重，全家人都很焦急。陆游自己也预感没有好转的希望了，于是，他就在这个风雨之夜，把几个儿子喊到床前，对他们说：“我的病不会好了……”几个儿子听了，都掉下了眼泪，异口同声地说：“爹爹，爹爹，您的病会好的。”“我知道我自己的病已到膏肓，好不了，只是临前，有一件事令我十分痛惜……”“是什么?爹爹!”几个儿子忍住悲痛，抑住了哽咽，悲痛地望着爹爹。“我痛惜的，不是个人的身世，而是——国家!”陆游很艰难的话语中，用力吐出这两个宇。“国家?”几个儿子惊讶地问。“对!”陆游微微点了点头。接着，他更加缓慢、更加艰难地说：“人以后万事皆空。但有一件事，我没有看到，后也不能瞑目。这就是外敌没有打败，中原没有收复。以后有一天，这愿望实现了，你们在祭祀祖先的时候，可不能忘记告诉你的爹爹啊!”“爹爹，我们一定不会忘记，不会忘记!”几个儿子一边流泪一边回答。
陆游听了自己的儿子这样回答，顿时舒展了紧锁的眉头，胡须遮盖的口角边微微露出一丝笑意。眼睛闭上了，呼吸也停止了。一个伟大的爱国诗人在这个荒凉的孤村离开了人间!此时，风声、雨声，哭泣声汇成一片，全家陷入了极度的悲痛之中。户外的风雨似乎也为这位伟大的爱国诗人陆游的离去在痛哭。
