首先,圆明园是举世闻名的皇家林园,曾经被誉为“万园之园”。如今尽管满目疮痍,但100多年来,圆明园遗址却无声地昭示着八国联军的罪行,警醒着一代又一代的中华儿女,吸引着来自世界各地的人们。发掘遗址,修复圆明园,恢复皇家园林的风貌,是众盼所归。
其次,从文物部门对约3000位参观者的调查统计,大多数人支持修建圆明园,并愿意为此尽一份力。
第三,国家文物局及北京市的有关专家学者曾多次召开研讨会,研究发掘保护修复圆明园的方案措施,修复已经列入议事日程,只是意见稍有分歧,是全部恢复原貌,还是部分修复有代表性建筑物有待统一认识。
第四,法国著名诗人雨果的'诗写到：“在世界的一隅/存在着人类一大奇迹/这个奇迹就是圆明园/一个近乎超人的民族所能幻想到的一切都汇集于此/时光的流逝会使一切都属于全人类”。这样一座举世无双的皇家御苑，中西合璧的园林建筑群，东方文化艺术宝库，难道我们就让它永远作废墟吗?千百年的仇恨不能随风而去?千百年的的历史辉煌，汇集了无数天下胜景和名园精华的皇家博物馆应该重见天日。
第五，当恐怖袭击美国纽约后，纽约市长宣布：要重建世贸大厦，并说：不允许任何人改变美国纽约的轮廓。那么我们允许别人改变中国北京的轮廓吗?回答是：“决不允许!”。重建圆明园我想是许多中国人的一块“心病”，只是我们的国力目前还不能让我们实现这一“梦想”。但是，重建圆明园应该从现在开始，在统一规划的基础上，逐步修复。
第六，圆明园修复，才真正是中华民族振兴的标志，上可告慰华夏先祖，今可洗清中华民族之耻辱扬眉吐气，后可明标青史教育后人。如果说只能留下目前的遗址，才能教育后人，那只是一种无奈和儒弱的推辞，或者说借口罢了。
第七，国衰园毁，盛世兴园。如今我们国家的综合国力已显著提高，科学技术已相对发达起来，重建圆明园的条件越来越具备，当然还需要全中国人甚至世界各国爱好和平和园林艺术的人民共同努力，我希望皇家名苑、万园之园，能在我们这一代重现辉煌。难道有谁不愿意看到比法国凡尔赛宫、比英国白金汉宫还要光彩夺人的圆明园吗?
