小年这天的主要习俗有：
一、祭灶：这是小年这天最重要的活动。
小年是民间祭灶的日子。
传说，玉皇大帝在每家派驻一位灶神(也称为司命灶君、灶君、灶王爷、灶王，以监督考察这一家一年的所作所为，到了小年这一天，灶神将上天向玉皇大帝汇报，玉皇大帝根据灶神的汇报决定下一年对这家是进行奖励还是处罚，第二年新年灶神再回来继续监督这家的作为。祭灶节这一天，实际是各家欢送灶神上天的节日。
小年这天，要把经过一年烟熏火燎，已旧的灶神画像揭下，用一块黏稠的糖瓜或饴糖或糕粘在他嘴上，以使其“嘴甜”只能说好事，再用稻草为灶神扎一草马，以便让他“上天言好事，回宫降吉祥”，然后和草马一起烧掉。
新年后再买一幅新灶神画像，将灶神请回来。在中间这几天内，由于没有灶神的监督，一般人放量暴饮暴食、聚众赌博，放纵自己做一些自己平时也认为不应该犯的小过错。
祭灶的风俗，由来甚久。灶君，在夏朝就已经成了民间尊崇的一位大神。记述春秋时孔丘言行的《论语》中，就有“与其媚舆奥，宁媚与灶”的话。
先秦时期，祭灶位列“五祀”之一。祭灶时要设立神主，用丰盛的酒食作为祭品。
关于灶君本人，早期有炎帝、祝融之说。后来又衍生出许多说法。魏晋以後，灶神有了姓名。隋杜台卿《玉烛宝典》引《灶书》称，“灶神，姓苏，名吉利，妇名搏颊”。《杂五行书》又称，“灶神名禅，字子郭，衣黄衣，披发，从灶中出”。灶神初为女神，或称是老妇，或称是美女，说法诸多。《敬灶全书》则称，灶君姓张，名单，字子郭，当属男神。
二、扫尘
扫尘主要是将家里进行彻底清洁， 扫尘为的是除旧迎新，拔除不祥。
旧时各家各户都要在年前在进行认真彻底的清扫，粉刷墙壁，擦洗玻璃，糊花窗，贴年画等等。 在北京，通常把腊月二十四日定为"扫房日"。
三、剪窗花
建好窗花后贴在打扫一新的屋子里，给家里增添了许多过年的喜气。
窗花图案有各种动、植物、人物等掌故，如喜鹊登梅，孔雀戏牡丹 ，狮子滚绣球 ，三羊(阳开泰，二龙戏珠，鹿鹤桐椿(六合同春，五蝠(福捧寿，犀牛望月，莲(连年有鱼(馀，鸳鸯戏水，刘海戏金蝉，和合二仙等等。
四、沐浴理发
民间有"有钱没钱，剃头过年"的说法。而沐浴理发的活动，多集中在小年前后进行。
五、赶乱婚
过了二十三，民间认为诸神上了天，百无禁忌。娶媳妇、聘闺女不用择日子，称为赶乱婚。民谣有"岁晏乡村嫁娶忙，宜春帖子逗春光。灯前姊妹私相语，守岁今年是洞房"的说法。
六、吃糖瓜、饴糖、麻糖等
糖瓜、饴糖、麻糖等吃食本为给灶王爷嘴上抹得吃食，逐渐演变成了小孩小年必吃的零食。晋西北有“二十三吃麻糖，吃不上麻糖啃指头”的俗话。
七、地方禁忌
小年各地的禁忌各有不同。
相传湖北部分地区，小年忌宰。
河南有些地方忌讳捣蒜，认为小年捣蒜会把家里捣穷了。
台湾则忌舂米，据说会有把风神捣下来之虞，恐怕给来年带来风灾

Thirdly, bicycles can save energy and does not cause any pollution, while cars will cause serious air pollution, which makes the air in our living place very dirty and makes a lot of people suffer from lung cancer. As we all know, China is a country with a large population. Ifeach family has a car, a large amount of energy would be wasted and air pollution would become more and more serious. Finally, most Chinese people don’ t live far away from where they work or study, it is convenient to ride bicycles. I think that is why bicycles are used so much.
Bicycles are so popular in China that China is often referred to as the kingdom of bicycles. I hope more and more people can ride bicycles in order to make our planet better and cleaner.
