尊老爱幼，这是每个中国人都不可失去的东西，这是我们传承千年的礼仪，但是我们有过认真地去“尊老受幼”吗？前几天我在坐461路公交车时，公交广播上传来了如此声音：尊老爱幼，是中华民族的传统美德，请您为有需要的乘客让座，谢谢！此时我正站在车门口，车厢内人满为患。在一个单人座上，坐着一位三十开外的妇女，她的身边站着一位怀抱婴儿的妇人。由于车厢内十分拥挤，她显得那么渺小，一只手紧抓着座位想保持平衡。站在车厢高处的我看到这一幕，心想：我要是那个女人我一定让座，她那么困难，哪有不让的理由啊！车缓缓开动了，车厢上下颠簸，那个坐在椅子上的女人对她一旁的景象熟视无睹，俨然不顾他人的感受。看到这，我不禁限入了沉思：以前在地铁上从未看到过诸如此类的事，遇到这种事总会有人让座。而所有美感，都被我在461车上看到的笔勾销。这难道就是炎黄子孙传承了两千年的礼仪？
前不久，我在《读者》上看过一篇文章，说一位美国人对中国的“尊老”思想很赞同，他希望美国人也能传递这样的思想和理念。一位笔者评论：美国人把我们中国人丢弃的东西拾起来，如获至宝，这难道不值得我们去深思吗？一个建国只有二百多年的国家，竟然能在短时间内成为全世界的老大，靠的不就是吸取各国力量吗？现在他们又来偷我们所遗弃的东西，我们难道不应该反省一下吗？
中国人的吵闹在外国也是出名的。据说在国庆节期间，美国把所有的公园都关闭了。原来因中国人太吵了，他们放假来美国旅游肯定也吵，所以美国不愿意接待中国人，于是就关闭所有公园。听到这个消息后，我心头一震，突然感到很没面子。一个国人由于自己的陋习遭到别国反击，其威力比各种威力都要大，这实实在在地体现出民族的陋习对一个民族的影响。我记得一位前中山大学的.教授讲了一件他小时候的事：在他12岁时被因家派到前苏联进行少先队友好访问。吃饭的时候，他与一群年龄与自己相仿的人喝稀饭，结果他直接对着稀饭“嗖——”地喝了一口。当他抬起头时，发现四周的小孩都以一种异样的眼神看着自己，想笑去努力忍住自己。他感到很奇怪，便问原因，他们回答说自己喝稀饭发出的声音很大，很奇怪。如今，这位年方九十的老人对自己当时的情景仍牢记在心，并警告了当时在场的349名学生。看来，文明素质是我们中国最缺乏的。
我的综合实践老师曾讲过一个例子：2005年五．一黄金周，有报道称北京天安门广场产生了19吨垃圾，相当于近十辆货车所承载的重量。当时，我的综合老师认为这纯粹是一个夸张的说法。2007年，也就是北京奥运会的前一年，他一家三口与另一家一行七个人到北京游玩。当时他们要看升旗仪式，坐了一辆的士，到了天安门广场附近时，车停了下来，两个人把车门打开，请他们下车，并每人给了一面小国旗。当综合老师正为北京的变化而感叹时，那两个人却开始伸手要钱：“一面小国旗5元，开两次车门各5元。”这句话给他们当头一棒，仿佛泼了一盆冷水，北京的变化难道就是如此？就这样，他们因为对方的一点点礼仪就花了45元，心里很不舒服。到天安门广场看升旗仪式时，每个人都显得那么严肃，那么庄重。当鲜艳的五星红旗升起最顶端时，人们便陆续离开，手中的小红旗纷纷撒落一地，不一会儿就布满了整个广场。综合老师形容是“大红旗登顶，小红旗落下”，他说，平时垃圾都那么多，那19吨垃圾也就不奇怪了。我想起老师形容的“大红旗登顶，小红旗落下”，心里很不是滋味，难道我们民族的文明就是这样的？
文明，本该是我们中国传承的精神，但如今却随着历史的洗刷慢慢逝去。我们应该努力地发扬这种伟大的精神，不要让他成为历史。也许，若干年后，中国仅存的一位有意识的人在呼唤：“我们的文明哪里去了？”

summer can be very hot in southern taiwan where the temperature usually goes up to 32"c or more. because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. also because of this i stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky.
actually i like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. in the summer vacation that has just ended i went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. this summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. as a second-year senior student i had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. in other words, i must find time to study, too.
so i divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.

I went to the countryside to spend my summer holidays this year. I liked green plants, clear rivers and lovely amimals there.I breathed the fresh air on the mountain and sometimes I went swimming in the river. I kept a diary every day.
I liked not only the scene of the countryside, but also the people there. I helped them to do farm work. I also helped the children in the neighbourhood with their lessons. The children were interested in English. They were good at reading and writing, but did not do well in listening and speaking. I helped them improve their listening and speaking. Their parents thought highly of me. I realized that knowledge is greatly needed in the countryside.
