童年的印记中，有几个年龄相仿的男生，大家常常凑在一起，成了固定的玩伴儿。时常扎堆，商量着去树上掏鸟窝，或者去下河捕鱼捞虾，再或者就去村上谁家的果园，顺几个苹果。这些行径常常被大人呵斥，被老黄狗追撵，但我们乐此不疲。在众多的玩伴中，他比较独特一些，相对安静，不胡跑，不下河。看他白白净净的，像个书生。他确实天生就相对安静，喜欢看书。
一个炎热的夏季，暑气渐渐消退，我们一群小孩儿又去了河边，大家商量着摸几条鱼来烤着吃。在他母亲的强烈要求下，他也跟来了，但没有摸鱼，而是在河边寻寻觅觅着什么。只见他时而俯身下去，细细翻找；时而直起腰板，打眼儿巡视；时而快速上前，似乎发现了什么宝贝……他的一系列动作引起了我的好奇，我也上前一探究竟。我刚走进，还未等我开口，他就把一块石头塞进我手里，说：“送给你的。”我定睛一看，这是一块光滑的鹅卵石，较标准的球形，上面有很多黑色的斑点，可以说在石头中算长得比较标致的了。收到突如其来的礼物，我和他相视一笑，竟高兴得一句话都说不出。
后来，父母突然叫我回到城里念书，便在一个夏末的早晨，匆匆离开了那里。我将鹅卵石放在小百宝箱中，那段记忆、那段光阴似乎也封存其间。多年以后，我带着礼物再回到那里，想将礼物回赠与他，在众伙伴中搜寻，却没有找到他的身影。一问才知道，他因为身患重病，他爸爸妈妈带他去大城市治病去了。我手中拿着礼物，怔在那里。“患病？”我一脸惊诧。“你不觉得他的.脸色过于白了吗？”其中一个伙伴说，“那是因为他生着病。”我才断断续续回忆出，他确实脸色不红润，且不爱动，整个人都是静静的。“那他现在呢？”我继续追问。“不知道，也没人说起。”小伙伴随口说。
接下来的玩耍都显得若然无味，可能是因为他不在跟前，可能是因为我的礼物没有送出，可能是我对他隐隐的担忧，可能……之后发生的事便模糊不清了，只依稀记得我一个人在岸边待了很久。
回到城里，看着那块儿鹅卵石，总感觉内心像被什么击中了一样，有一种难以名状的疼痛。那块石头至今还留在我身边，每当我拿起它时，心都会微微颤抖，我知道，那是心湖漾起的微澜。
