有这样一则故事：一位美国人带着9岁的男孩去钓鱼，河边有块告示牌写着：“钓鱼时间从上午9点到下午4点止。”一到河边，父亲就提醒孩子要先读清楚告示牌上的警示文字。那孩子很清楚只能垂钓到下午4点。
父子俩从上午10点半开始垂钓，直到下午3点55分左右，突然间孩子发现钓到了一条大鱼，想尽快地把它拉上岸。
父子两人经过一段时间的努力，终于将一条七八斤的大鱼钓了起来。父亲看了一眼手表，收起笑容对孩子正色说道：“亲爱的，你看看手表，现在已经是4点05分了，按照规定只能钓到4点整，因此我们必须将这条鱼放回河里去。”
孩子一听，不以为然地对父亲说：“可是我们钓到的时候还没有到4点啊!这条鱼我们应该可以带回家。”孩子露出渴望的表情看着父亲。
