《我的特工爷爷》云集刘德华、陈沛妍、冯嘉怡、李勤勤等几位主演，还邀得冯绍峰、彭于晏、朱雨辰、胡军、徐克、麦嘉、石天、小宋佳等众星的加盟。从6月初在黑龙江省绥芬河开拍以来，电影就备受业内人士瞩目，由于故事发生在位于中俄边境的小镇上，为达到最真实的影像效果，剧组亲赴绥芬河及牡丹江进行拍摄工作，更来到俄罗斯风景宜人的海参崴(符拉迪沃斯托克取景。
片场当日拍摄的戏份相当火爆刺激，刘德华在海参崴市中心拍摄跳窗戏份，导演洪金宝坐镇现场，悉心指导影帝的戏份，两人多年之后再度合作依旧默契十足。当日剧组还转场来到海参崴郊外的海滨，拍摄起影片中另外一场重头戏份。刘德华在运动的车内空间中演出挣扎的内心戏，虽然并无太多动作场面，却堪称刘德华片中的命运转折点。在逼仄的车内空间中，相当考验天王的演技及导演的功力。
片中，刘德华再现“男神”魅力，不仅演绎出单身父亲的落魄味道，更是为影片中的黑帮势力纠葛埋下伏笔。谦逊的华仔不断向记者强调，自己并非主演，只是一个“大客串”。但同时作为监制，他也透露了自己把关剧本的标准：“就是要自己喜欢”。
从小荧幕到大荧幕 朱雨辰不雷同
朱雨辰在影片中饰演嫉恶如仇的警察朴昌盛，勇猛异常，却总是被母亲泼冷水，朱雨辰勇猛与窘态的碰撞成为电影的吸睛看点。自《反恐特战队》圆军人梦后，朱雨辰再扮黑超警察却又与众不同，从小荧幕到大荧幕的巨大跳跃又要做到不雷同，不仅要严谨，还要给观众带来新鲜的视觉感受，对朱雨辰的演技既是挑战又是升华。
