农夫家里有一只公鸡和一只母鸡。
公鸡比母鸡大两个月。公鸡已经长出了大红冠、长尾巴和一身丰满的羽毛，看上去即高大又威猛。相比之下，母鸡长得瘦瘦小小的，没有大红冠，也没有长尾巴。公鸡有些瞧不起她，都不愿和她玩。
每天早晨，天都还没亮，公鸡就“哦哦哦”地打鸣叫农夫起床干活。农夫直夸他勤快，还往院子里撒玉米给他们俩吃。公鸡见母鸡也来吃，就不乐意了，说：“我每天这么辛苦，而你什么都没做，这是主人给我的，你不许吃。”每每这时，母鸡就难过极了。
日子一天天过去，母鸡慢慢长大了。
这天上午，母鸡在鸡窝里下了个蛋，撒着欢“咯咯咯”满院子跑，农夫看见了，开心得合不拢嘴，还比往常多撒了些玉米给他俩。公鸡见了，很不服气地说：“得意什么，不就下个蛋吗，有什么了不起的？我也会。”说完，就跑去鸡窝里一动不动地趴着，脸都涨红了。可是，不管他怎么努力，就是下不出来一个蛋。
公鸡灰心地走出鸡窝，不好意思再去啄地上的玉米。母鸡见了，走过去安慰他说：“不要难过了，过来一起吃吧。你虽然不会下蛋，但你每天早起打鸣也很辛苦呀！我们每个人都有自己的长处，肯定也会有不足，以后大家分工合作就行了。”
从此以后，公鸡再没有瞧不起母鸡，他们和睦相处，公鸡每天打鸣，母鸡每天下蛋，和农夫一家过着幸福快乐的日子。

母鸡的头小小的，身体胖胖的，屁股肥肥的，走起路来一摇一摆，像一只奔跑的鸵鸟。它的眼睛是圆溜溜的，像两颗小黑豆。有两个不太被发现的鼻孔，还有一张尖尖的嘴。吃起东西来脑袋一点一点的，像一只啄木鸟在树干里面捉虫子，非常可爱。
我家的母鸡不仅可爱，而且非常淘气。每当开饭的时候，一个个像难民一样飞扑过来。“各--各--各--”争夺食物的号角声已经响起。有的鸡横冲直撞；有的鸡聪明的飞过其它鸡的头顶，直接落在石槽里；有的在其它鸡的屁股后面挤来挤去，却怎么也进不去；还有的鸡在悠然自得地等着。
我家的鸡非常勤劳，一只鸡几乎每天都可以下一个蛋。每到傍晚，母鸡一天的工作就完成了。爷爷收完鸡蛋，就把鸡赶到鸡窝里去休息。爷爷在冬天会给鸡开灯取暖，夏天的时候开一晚上电扇给鸡散热。
这就是我家的母鸡。
