屋檐下有个燕巢，三只刚出壳的小燕子，长着嫩黄的小嘴，拍打着翅膀，“唧唧”地叫着，焦急地等着燕子妈妈来喂食。
小英走出门来，她穿着红色外套，蓝色裙子，头上梳着羊角小辫，还扎了鹅黄色的蝴蝶结。她看着这一派春光明媚的景色，深深地吸了一口气，心里有种说不出的喜欢。
小英转头看着燕巢，心中升起一种盼望，盼望小燕子快快长大，省得燕子妈妈整天忙忙碌碌的。突然，意想不到的事情发生了，小燕子在巢里互相推挤着，有一只小燕子竟然滚了出来，只见它徒劳地扇动着翅膀，但毕竟羽翼未丰，重重地摔在地上。
小英一下傻眼了，看着小燕子颤动着翅膀，眼睛微闭，肚子一起一伏，发出微弱的叫声。“喵呜”，不知从哪里蹿出一只大花猫来，只见它双眼瞪得圆圆的，前腿趴在地上，后腿蹬直，弓起后背，尾巴快活地摇来摇去，一副立刻要向小燕子发起攻击的样子。这下可把小英急坏了，她的心都提到嗓子眼上了，说时迟，这时快，小英急中生智，随手从墙边拿起一根小棒，朝着大花猫冲去，一边挥舞着小棒，一边大喊：“滚开，不许伤害小燕子！”大花猫愣了一下，一扭头逃跑了。
小英长长地吁了一口气，用手轻轻捧起小燕子，拂去它身上的泥土，又从家里搬出梯子，将小燕子小心翼翼地放回了燕巢中。燕子妈妈回来了，不停地在小英头上飞旋，不住地叫着：“唧——唧——”，好像在说：“谢谢你啊！谢谢你！”
小英看着幸福的燕子一家，开心地笑了。
