这幅漫画的确引人捧腹大笑，可给人们更多的，是欢笑过后的.深思。因为，这幅漫画就是我们生活中的真实写照和缩影。仔细想想，在我们生活中，不也有很多孩子跟画中的小男孩一样吗？他们是父母的“掌上明珠”，不是“饭来张口”，就是“衣来伸手”。那么父母呢？他们把孩子放在手心里怕冻着，含在口里怕化了，对孩子百依百顺，有求必应。他们怎会知道，这种爱会把孩子引入歧途？
一名娇生惯养的大学生，来到广州求学，因为没有父母、保姆帮忙料理生活，什么家务活都不会干，无法适应新的生活环境，最终跳楼自尽。这场悲剧难道还不足以说明溺爱的害处吗？这场悲剧的罪魁祸首正是父母，如果不是父母过度溺爱孩子，让孩子丧失了生活的自理能力，那个大学生又怎会走上绝路呢？
相比起国内的家长，澳大利亚的家长则显得明智得多。他们知道，娇惯了的孩子缺乏自制力和独立生活的能力，长大成人后难免吃亏，所以，他们在孩子打预防针时，把孩子“甩”在地上任其活动，而不是哭了就抱。当然，他们教育孩子的方式不止于此，但就凭他们不会溺爱孩子这一点，就值得许多父母学习。

Partly autobiographical, the novel abounds with social criticism and sinister gothic elements.
