《童年》第二章讲述了舅舅们吵着分家家产，大人们都是以仇恨为纽带的。之后“我”又犯了一个错误外祖父狠狠地打了“我”。但是后来外祖父又来看我给我讲他那离奇的身世经历过许多磨难但它又是怎样熬过来的。虽然他非常的凶狠但他的身世令人同情。我们现在的生活年代哪能和高尔基那时的年代相提并论我们应该好好珍惜。对于阿廖沙而言，他的外祖父家中充满了仇恨。人与人之间总是彼此戒备、提防、攻击，连孩子也不例外。
在阿廖沙与他母亲刚来到外祖父家时，他母亲的两个弟弟正闹分家。一天晚上，他们吵架，外祖父生气，外祖母劝架。阿廖沙没有跟他的表兄弟们出去，而惹到了外祖父，从此以后，阿廖沙便非常怕他的外祖父。
过了几天，娜塔莉娅舅妈教阿廖沙念祷告词。阿廖沙故意将祷词念错，她也不生气。阿廖沙的外祖父要在星期六将萨希（他的表哥）抽一顿，阿廖沙一直都不懂抽和打有什么区别。
阿廖沙对大人们的染布技术充满了好奇，很想亲手试试。萨沙得知这个主意后，让阿廖沙拿白桌布试试。当阿廖沙刚把桌布的一角按进蓝颜料桶，学徒工茨冈一边夺下布，一边让萨沙叫外祖母。星期六，外祖父抽了萨沙，也打了阿廖沙。接着，阿廖沙大病了一场。不久，母亲便消失了。一天，外祖父来看阿廖沙，向他道歉，还哄他高兴。外祖父走后，茨冈来了，他还教阿廖沙一个秘诀，挨打时要放松，还要喊得跟猪一样，挨抽时，要随着树枝转动身子，这样才不会被抽掉皮。
它揭露了俄国沙皇时期的黑暗、残暴和非人生活。而高尔基从小就生活在这样的环境里，受尽折磨与欺辱，无论是在精神上或是肉体上，都承受着巨大的痛。

商业英文书信，一般都要求用打字机或电脑整齐地打印，左边各行开头垂直的，称为垂直式或齐头式（Block style），美国常用这种格式；每段的`第一个词缩进去，称为缩进式或锯齿式（indented style），英国常用此格式。垂直式的职务及签名都在左边的边栏界线，这种格式，在极度尊重工作效率的美国公司，已普遍采用，其它英语写作《英语书信格式与称谓的差异》。正式的商业英语书信要在称呼的上方写上收信公司名称和地址或收信人的名字全称、的职务及地址，称为信内地址（Inside address）。信内地址的写法也有垂直式和缩进式之分，垂直式和称美国式将各行并列，缩进式或称英国式将各行依次退缩。

信件如果有附件，可在信纸的左下角，注上Encl：或Enc：，例如：Encl：2 photos（内附两张照片）。如果福建附件不止一项，应写成Encl：或Encs。
我们有时可看到在称呼与正文之间有Re：或Subject：（事由）字样。一般在信纸的中间，也可与“称呼”对齐。还应在底下加横线，以引起读信人的注意，使收信人便于在读信之前就可了解信中的主要内容。事由一般在公务信函中使用，也可以省略。
